Chuacruz Camera Strap
Artful Venture brings us this piece from a quiet community in the Guatemalan Highlands of the Sierra Madre mountain range. Using time-honored techniques of their ancestors, the women of the Chuacruz cooperative weave brightly colored and intricately patterned textiles, made from cotton sourced in El Salvador, and threads dyed with natural pigments in Guatemala.
“Each color has its own story and history. The reds represent the blood of their ancestors, the green the plants and animals of the region, the black as the darkness and night, and the white the purity of Maya women.” -AV
A portion of the proceeds from each sale goes to Arte del Mundo – an educational program designed to foster the pursuit of art and develop the creativity of youth in Baños, Ecuador.
