Sisal Woven Bowl from Rwanda

From $22

These bowls come from artisans in a small agricultural community in the Muhanga District of Rwanda. Handcrafted from natural sisal fibers and native grasses, these pieces are woven by the Abizeranye Association – a collective of 17 Rwandan women whose namesake means “People Who Trust One Another.”  The sisal fibers are grown, harvested, and hand-dyed locally – using the pigment of loose Rwandan tea leaves to create the warm, caramel hues of the Tea Swirl Bowls. Each small bowl takes 1 day of work to thread and weave; larger sizes can take an artist 2-3 days to craft.
