The Mesmerizing Trumpet Light

This chandelier is made out of the carbon sequestering trumpet plant (Eriogonum inflatu) found in dry areas of Colorado. It is 5′ in diameter.

The desert trumpet’s were used by Native Americans as tobacco pipes and its hollow stem serves as a reservoir for carbon dioxide. The air inside the stems, in fact, contains enough CO2 to kill insect larvae. Careful insect mothers who do lay eggs in trumpet stems drill a hole in the stem to ventilate their offspring. Plants breathe CO2 when they’re engaging in photosynthesis, and higher concentrations mean more efficient turning of sunlight and water into plant tissue.

This chandelier is a prototype, she is waiting for spring to bike in the desert and collect more trumpets as she already received several orders!
